VOLKSWAGEN AND PORSCHE
ENGINE ADAPTERS

KEP manufacture 60 different kits to fit 100 different engines to rear engine Volkswagen or 911 & 914 Porsche.

All these engines rotate the correct direction except 4 cyl Honda and Corvair engines.

Usually a junk yard engine and adapter kit can be purchased for less than a high performance VW engine or any Porsche engine. In addition to an economic advantage, you can normally expect more power and a longer engine life.

Most installations require a radiator and many require a beefed transaxle. Information is included in the K.E.P. catalog and more is included with the adapter kit. Weights of many engines are in the catalog because this is one of many considerations when choosing an engine. Smog laws, strength of the transaxles and smoothness of the engine can be very important so we have some recommendations.

Carbureted engines are often used because of ease of installation. Computerized engines can be expected to provide extra power, better response and higher fuel mileage but they can be difficult to wire up. We can provide wiring information only for the 2.2 Subaru Legacy. Most others are simpler.

In addition to powering street vehicles, these kits are being used in sandrails, offroad racing, formula track racing, Bonneville and industrial applications.

KEP Adapter Kit

KEP adapter kits include: adapter plate, flywheel, pilot bearing (set) & bolts (dusts shield if needed).

Our basic adapter kit includes an adapter plate, modified VW flywheel, pilot bearing and the bolts to bolt it all together. In addition to our kit you need a counterweight from an automatic Mazda Rotary engine. You will need a HD pressure plate. 
You will also need a starter that will spin the engine fast.

KEP 200mm VW PRESSURE PLATES (8")

KEP 200mm High Performance Volkswagen Pressure Plate.

This is KEP 200mm high performance Volkswagen pressure plate.
Also shown are the pressure pad and spriolox for early style.

This new clutch comes in four load ratings. Be careful that you do not order a stronger clutch than you need. Torque capacities using a stock disc are shown below.

KEP STAGE I

180 ft. lb.
Intended to handle any street VW and engines up to '75 Buick V6. Use stronger clutch for later Buicks.

KEP STAGE II

220 ft. lb.
Works good in well hopped up VW sandbuggies and most other competition VW uses where the driver is determined to either win or break.

KEP STAGE III

260 ft. lb.
Will handle a low compression 305 CID Chevrolet V8 for street use.

KEP STAGE IV

300 ft. lb.
Used by some drag-racers who are running very large VW engines and nitrous and drop the hammer at 8000 RPM using an organic disc.

 

KEP 228mm VW PRESSURE PLATES (9")

Fits '76 and newer VW Bus, Vanagon, Hewland DG, Fortin, and Mendola transaxles using the KEP 9" flywheel. Torque capacities using a stock disc are shown below.

9" STAGE I

This pressure plate works well in Porsche 911 powered 914's or V6 camper vans. Enjoy good holding power and easy pedal effort.

9" STAGE II

This is the one used by winning unlimited class offroad racers. Also very popular for use in V8 powered 914's under 400 HP.

9" STAGE III

378 ft. lb.
This pressure plate is designed to handle 500 HP on an organic disc. Good for street or race applications with lots of power.

 



Performance "CUSH - LOCK" Type, Solid Hub

CUSH - LOCK Solid Hub  Clutch Disc
A progressive engagement clutch disc having a compressible clutch plate assembly mounted between the clutch flywheel and pressure plate. The clutch plate assembly has a pair of outer aluminum heat dissipating plates, a center wave spring plate coaxially mounted on a hub for axial movement relative to one another and to the hub, and clutch facings on the outer sides of the outer plates engage-able with clutch facings on the flywheel and pressure plate. During clutch engagement, the clutch plate assembly and its spring are progressively compressed between the flywheel and pressure plate until clutch plates are firmly gripped between the flywheel and pressure plate to permit torque transmission through the clutch without chattering, excessive stress on the clutch or transmission couplet to the clutch, and other problems associated with conventional clutches.

This disc is designed for drag and road race use. The disc features 4 sintered ceramic pucks. This disc has the advantages of the solid hub metallic button clutch disc with the additional feature of the sprung hub. Specifically designed three retainers protect damper springs from both sides and significantly improve safety. The center has a unique feature of being assembled with six rivets for extra strength. Recommended for smaller engines.

4 Button discs are the most popular in its category. The solid hub metallic button discs are capable of withstanding the highest possible loads that can be transmitted through a disc of its size. This disc design allows fast shifting at any RPM without risk of blow-up. These discs are extremely popular where the clutch has to be slipped: drag racing, road racing from a standing start, stock car racing. An additional benefit: coefficient of friction remains very high even when the friction surfaces become contaminated.
